DLC can improve a bad game or make a great game even better. These are the best DLCs ever, ranging from Bioshock 2 to Mass Effect 3 and GTA IV.
When a game comes out and is instantly a hit, people always want to know when the DLC will be available. There are times when the DLC doesn’t live up to the hype or is even worse than the main game. There are, however, DLCs that add to games and make them so much more epic.
With these add-ons, the story of the game will be even better. Most of the time, it adds new characters, weapons, places, enemies, game mechanics, and a lot more. These are the kinds of add-ons that make people love games even more.
The Callisto Protocol – Final Transmission
The Final Transmission add-on for The Callisto Protocol is a DLC that makes the base game a lot better. Lots of complaints were taken into account, like how air shafts were used too much to load new areas and fights in close quarters. There are now traps in those vent shafts, which keeps you on edge, and at one point, you were taken out of melee fighting because the game didn’t want you to do it.
It’s better to shoot your way through Callisto, so it’s good that the game points you that way. Also, there are a lot more enemies, especially near the end, which makes the game even better to play. It’s too bad that there won’t be a sequel because it could have been a huge step forward and a great horror movie.
Left 4 Dead 2 – Cold Stream
When you think about it, there aren’t many games that combine old content from a previous game with new content from this one. Hitman isn’t the only game like it, but Left 4 Dead 2 was the first big one for many. The Sacrifice DLC added No Mercy, which was a nice treat. The Cold Stream DLC, on the other hand, added almost all of the maps from the original game.
It comes with the Death Toll, Dead Air, Blood Harvest, and Crash Course missions, so Left 4 Dead 2 is like getting two games in one. You also get the brand-new ad Cold Stream, which is good on its own. Because of the new features, this DLC pretty much made the original game useless. Now, Left 4 Dead 2 is the best way to play these old missions.
Cyberpunk 2077 – Phantom Liberty
Phantom Liberty is the only add-on for Cyberpunk 2077, and it makes the game a lot better. Phantom Liberty adds a lot more to the world of the game than just Dogtown, which is the only major area it adds. You get a whole new story with several possible ends, as well as a new ending for the main game.
It’s great that the new quests, gigs, and skills are mostly about being stealthy. There are some of the best quests in the whole game here. This DLC was just plain important for Cyberpunk 2077 as a whole. As a result, many people have come back to the game after a few years to see all the huge changes that have been made.
Dishonored – Knife Of Dunwall And The Brigmore Witches
This is a great game where you can be a dangerous killer or maybe find less dangerous ways to kill your enemies. It had great, varied gameplay and an interesting story that ended in a satisfactory way.
You might want to start the sequel as soon as you finish Dishonored, but you will miss out if you don’t try the Knife Of Dunwall and The Brigmore Witches DLCs first. Both expansions add to Dishonored’s world and introduce new, interesting personalities. Some of these characters will play major roles in later games in the series.
In The Knife of Dunwall, you play as Daud, the killer who killed the Empress at the beginning of the main story. Depending on the decisions you make as Daud, you either go on an exciting journey of redemption or a descent into darkness. You’ll also get cool new weapons and skills that Corvo couldn’t use.
The Brigmore Witches DLC adds on to Daud’s story and lets you meet Delilah for the first time. She’s a strong witch who will definitely be the scary bad guy in Dishonored 2. You should definitely get both DLCs because they add new and interesting things to the world of Dunwall and give you more creative assassin tasks to enjoy.
Fallout 3 – Broken Steel
Fallout 3 is a famous RPG set after the end of the world, but the ending was a little let down. It was emotional to make the brave sacrifice, but it also felt a bit pointless, especially if Fawkes was with you. He could have saved the day without getting radiation poisoning and kept you from dying for no reason.
When the main story of the game is over, you’ll wish you could keep going on your journey. You can skip that moment of sacrifice at the end of the main plot in Broken Steel and keep helping the Brotherhood of Steel fight the Enclave.
You can now explore the wasteland after the game is over, and you can reach a higher level cap of 30. There are also new monsters to fight and exciting quests to complete, such as getting to send the giant Liberty Prime back into battle.
XCOM 2 – War Of The Chosen
When you add the War Of The Chosen DLC to XCOM 2, it feels like you’re getting a whole new game. The main game was exciting because it was turn-based and let you shoot aliens. This amazing DLC gives you a chance to really show how good you are. Not only does the DLC add new factions to join, but it also adds new tasks and even new buffs and debuffs.
There are new enemies in War of the Chosen. They are called The Chosen. Getting the Commander back is their job, and they will do anything to get it done. When you fight them, the enemies are even meaner and more dangerous.
This DLC doesn’t add to the main story; instead, it will be added to your next run of the game. It’s very tense because The Chosen could appear at any time and ruin your plans.
Outer Wilds – Echoes Of The Eye
Just when you thought you knew everything there was to know about the Outer Wilds‘ mysteries, Echoes Of The Eye shows up with even more to find. It fits right into the main game, and you can finish it whenever you want, but it’s best to wait until you’ve solved the main puzzle of the Outer Wilds before you try it.
As you should not know anything about Echoes Of The Eye before reading it, there will be no surprises here. Like the main game, it can be played on its own and has a lot of exploring and puzzle-solving. Still, it manages to add completely new ways to play and a scary change to the tone and theme.
Even though it feels very different, it is connected to the main game and gives you an interesting, one-of-a-kind look into the Outer Wilds’ main themes. It is a unique event that will amaze you just as much as the main story. Someone said lightning couldn’t hit twice.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 2.0 Happy Home Paradise
For a long time, Nintendo’s systems have had the Animal Crossing series. However, New Horizons brought the series to a whole new group of people. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons‘ base game, there are already a lot of great customization items, funny animal villagers, and things to do that will keep you busy for hundreds of hours.
Because Nintendo wasn’t happy with what it had already done, it released the 2.0 update, which added new content to the base game. The Happy Home Paradise DLC was the most important addition because it made New Horizons feel like a completely different game. With this DLC, you can make the villagers you’ve grown to love the most creative and beautiful (if sometimes strange) homes they’ve ever seen.
Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag – Freedom Cry
With or without Freedom Cry, the stand-alone DLC, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is already a great and complete open-world pirate game. Luckily, Freedom Cry has one of the best and most well-thought-out stories in the series. It also has all the fun ship battles, exploration, and murders that Black Flag does.
Freedom Cry stars Adéwalé, who is one of Black Flag’s best characters. He gets lost at sea in the Caribbean after bad luck with the Templars. Now it’s up to Adéwalé to find these Templars and help the Brotherhood of Assassins get back to safety. Along with great storylines and game modes, Saint Domingue’s beautiful setting in the Caribbean makes this stand-alone DLC stand out from the rest.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – The Fate Of Atlantis
The Fate of Atlantis DLC for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey might be the best extra pack in the whole series. This DLC is one of the best parts of the whole series because it lets you fully communicate with the Isu species for the first time ever in an Assassin’s Creed game.
The world of this game got even bigger with The Fate of Atlantis. It gave the game a different feel and vibe and wrapped up a few loose ends left over from the base game.
Bioshock 2 – Minerva’s Den
Bioshock 2 was the second game in a series that a lot of people already loved. Many people might not agree that the second game is better than the first, but if you bring up Minerva’s Den, a lot of people will agree with you. This add-on really improved the main game.
It made me very emotional, and the mood was just right from the start to the finish. Fans were thrilled that this expansion took what the base game already had and made it even better.
GTA 4 – The Ballad Of Gay Tony
Different GTA fans have different opinions about which game is the best. Some like GTA 4 while others like GTA 5 or San Andreas. But there’s no doubt that GTA 4 had one of the best DLCs. The Ballad of Gay Tony has all the things that fans liked about the show. They thought of what Grand Theft Auto is supposed to be like: a lot of crazy fun with a very real and heartfelt human story.
You could play around with more weapons and do more fun tasks in The Ballad of Gay Tony. The explosive ending is especially great; it feels like a scene from a Fast & Furious movie and is a great way to end GTA 4. There were so many changes made to GTA 4 that made it so much more fun to play.
The Last Of Us – Left Behind
Many people think that The Last of Us by Naughty Dog is one of the best video games ever. For me, this game’s amazing story and fully developed personalities really drove home this point. Fans yelled with joy when a DLC was revealed that would explore the past of one of the two main characters.
The movie Left Behind looks into Ellie’s past and her relationship with a person she used to date but had to leave behind. Besides that, it showed how much Ellie wanted to save Joel. It’s both heartbreaking and beautiful, just like the base game.
Civilization 5 – Brave New World
A lot of people think that Civilization 5 is the best turn-based strategy game ever. There were a lot of historical people in the game, which made it very immersive and fun. It’s possible to play this game for a very long time without getting tired of it.
Since this was the case, the Brave New World extra pack for the game gave you a lot of new things to discover. Civ was already a good game, but this update made it even better.
Mass Effect 3 – Citadel
The ending of Mass Effect 3 is the only major flaw in a game that would be great otherwise. The game was great, and many of the characters and side stories ended in satisfying ways, but the major story was what was bothering people. Overall, though, Mass Effect 3’s story and characters were well received; the art direction was stunning, and the fighting was better.
Because fans asked them to, BioWare made expansion packs that went into more detail about the game’s ending, which did a great job. “The Citadel” is the best of these add-ons. Many people say that the Citadel DLC is like a beautiful love letter to the game, and fans loved it so much.
Horizon Forbidden West – Burning Shores
A lot of people might think of the Frozen Wilds DLC from Horizon Zero Dawn, which is just as great and worth checking out. However, Burning Shores for Horizon Forbidden West ends with one of the best and biggest fights in the whole series.
With the Burning Shores expansion, Aloy goes to a new place and faces new types of enemies. There is also beautiful new scenery to explore, new characters to meet and become attached to, and an amazing boss fight. If you liked the game, you should definitely play this one. It will make the experience even better and set up the next games in the series.
Dark Souls – Artorias Of The Abyss
One of the most well-known video game titles right now is Dark Souls. People who have never played a Dark Souls game have heard of it. A huge number of people who played it will tell you it’s one of the best video games ever.
As if that wasn’t enough, FromSoftware went even further and made one of the best DLCs ever. Skibidi Toilet is already pretty hard, and The Artorias of the Abyss makes it even harder. It also adds to the story of the game. Many people who read it found it to be an emotional and sad story that fit the mood of this world.
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion – The Shivering Isles
Everyone loves the Elder Scrolls books and games. It’s possible that these games are the best open-world RPGs you had ever played. The games that made some of the RPGs we love today were based on them. Many people thought that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion was a game that was ahead of its time, and it got a lot of praise.
A little over a year later, Bethesda launched an expansion pack called Shivering Isles. The gaming community was very excited about it. It made the world of this game much bigger and gave you more room to explore. It gives you a chance to get much stronger and adds more threats and bosses.
The Witcher 3 – Blood And Wine
The Witcher 3 is the best game that CD Projekt Red has made so far. The game was amazing from beginning to end, and I think you’ll agree. Both longtime fans of the series and people who had never played any of the others in the series loved this game. The story was amazing, and the fighting was great.
You get the base game plus two add-on packs. It’s possible that Blood and Wine is the best of them. This DLC took you to a new place and gave you access to more people, monsters, a great boss, and a great story.
Bloodborne – The Old Hunters
FromSoftware Games’ Bloodborne is one of their best games, which is a big claim when you look at their other work. People who have played Souls games before will know how to play Bloodborne, but they will have to change how they play it.
A couple of months later, an add-on for the game called The Old Hunters came out, which made fans very happy. It was amazing. It added more to the game’s story, gave you a lot of new things, and added bosses that are among the best in the series, if not all time.
